Dear Friend,

It has been brought to our attention that on the membership forms sent out to you earlier this year, it is mentioned that we are a 501 (c)(3). This was an oversight that we, as completely new members, didn't realize as we used the membership forms previously used when the Friends of the Library was founded, changing only the membership levels. We are currently not a 501 (c)(3) organization at the moment, so the fees are not taxable; but we are completely transparent in the use of the membership fees, as will be explained in the following paragraph.

The Friends of the Library only accept membership fees and any money from events hosted by the Friends, like the Vendor's Market vendor fees. The money from both membership fees and vendor fees is then collected to be presented to the Library for their children's program, like the Summer Reading Program. The fees are collected for a year, and the money is never taken out before being presented to the Librarians for the betterment of the children of Talladega. We will never solicit donations nor have we ever asked for any donations, due to the Library being able to receive donations and give a receipt upon request to use for taxes. Therefore, the money will never be used for personal use by any member of the Friends of the Library Core Members.

Please rest assured that we will make sure that this will not be repeated, and your money is being handled with care by people who have a great love for the library, the betterment and enrichment of our children, and who have open communication with the Librarians on what is needed towards the goal.
